is we have a unique opportunity to do something big. we have a chance to stabilize america's finances for a decade, for 15 years or 20 years. if we're willing to seize the moment. what that would require would be some shared sacrifice and a balanced approach that says we're going to make significant cuts in domestic spending. and i have already said i'm willing to take down domestic spending to the lowest percentage of our overall economy since dwight eisenhower. it also requires cuts in defense spending. and i've said that in addition to the $400 billion that we've already cut from defense spending we're willing to look for hundreds of billions more. it would require us taking on health care spending. and that includes looking at medicare and finding ways that we can stabilize the system so that it is available not just for this generation but for future generations. and it would require revenues. it would require, even as we're asking the person who needs a student loan or the senior citizen or, you know, people -- veterans who are trying to get by on a disability check, even as we'

think a big part of it is that you need to understand that social change -- you don't wake up overnight and think i'm going to change the world. just like you said you want to or you make it other than a class project. you have to realize -- dream big for sure. i'm sorry that i didn't say you can't save the world and that's not going to happen overnight. social change does not come overnight but it does come incrementally and it comes by even having good dialogs like this today and i know it sounds cheesy but that's the first step people can realize because when you get those first jobs i can only speak only about washington-oriented jobs you may have graduated from the best universities or been the top of your class or feel that you really have a high aptitude and high grasp of issues but when you get there and if you're doing some remedial work you might feel downtrodden and why am i not talking to the press right now about why we need to have cap-and-trade legislation. realize the change will come incrementally both for the issues and they will come incrementally for your careers but

been seen as the party of big spending in government. right now, voters are in a position where they want to see less spending. one gets down to specifics, they are more on the side of democrats. the paul ryan plan is very unpopular but the measures the democrats propose like increasing taxes on the wealthy and ending subsidies for corporations is very popular the democrats need to reach a credibility threshold on fiscal issues. they need to be willing to say that we need more government accountability. if they can agree to a down payment and get a boat on the record of cutting spending, it helps them reach that far. they want to move to a larger debate where the public is on their side about priorities and what is the next step. they want to from that republicans want to eliminate medicare for those under 55. they can cut some things that will affect the middle class since seniors but we want to end the subsidies for oil companies and the jets owners. if they can get bear rather than debate about cutting spending more or less, going into 2012, there will be a good position. hos

higher. the ftse and the dax are both down. sony is reporting big losses. let's go to kyung lah, live in tokyo. good morning, kyung. >> reporter: good morning, ali. it's not just sony but it is a bad day in a lot of boardrooms and many of the electronics companies here in japan. we saw a lot of reporting of the quarter from april to june. sony posted a loss of 191 million u.s. dollars. panasonic, down 390 million. sharp down 630 million and nintendo says they lost in that quarter 327 million u.s. dollars. why? well, partially because of the march 11th earthquake. they are still trying to recover from the poor sales and the supply problems. the other theme we keep seeing over and over again from these electronics companies is the currency problem. the u.s. dollar is sinking. sinking very rapidly in these last six weeks. u.s. manufacturers, just like japanese manufacturers all operate on the u.s. dollar. and so when japanese manufacturers then have to repatriate these funds here, they lose if the dollar is sinking and the yen is rising. what is pushing the dollar down is all of that u.s

. they do, however, believe she's no longer in central florida. when she left the jail, you saw the big crowds there. there were people yelling "killer" in that crowd as she got into the suv and left. there is a great deal of emotion still unresolved around this case. we saw a lot of people getting together who were doing something peaceful with those emotions over the weekend. they went to the site where caylee anthony's body was discovered and held a march from that site to the anthony home. all to remember the child whose death started all of this. it was a very solemn occasion. a lot of people walking in the street. at one point it was reported there were cars lined up on the road about a half mile long of people just parking on the roadside going into those woods where her body was discovered to go to that spot and remember that little girl. again, a great deal of emotion. people trying to process all of this on their own. but casey anthony at the moment is still staying out of the public eye even though she has a lot of legal entanglements she will still have to address in the mon

about today. the jury in the casey anthony murder trial got a big job to do this holiday. deliberations are expected to begin in a few more hours. first, the prosecution has some rebutting to do. the defense claims the state did not prove that case say anthony killed her daughter caylee but they played with the jury's emotions. >> you see the strategy behind that is, is if you hate her, if you think she's a lying, no good slut, then you will start to look at this evidence in a different light. you will start to, oh, wait a minute, maybe i'm seeing something that's not there and start to actually discriminate against her rather than give her the standard that is afforded to each and every citizen in our country. >> the trial in orlando gets under way at 8:30 eastern. the judge warned the jury today will be a long way for them. >>> fox news politics on twitter, someone has clearly hacked the twitter handle. the site is putting up all kinds of insane, inappropriate and untrue tweets about president obama. basically april fool's type stuff that isn't funny. we reached out to fox and twitter
